Three Maoists held in Chhattisgarh
August 17th, 2010 - 10:37 pm ICT by IANSRaipur, Aug 17 (IANS) Three Maoists were arrested in Chhattisgarh Tuesday when security forces raided their meeting in a forested pocket of restive Bastar region and seized arms and explosives from them, police said. The other rebels managed to escape into the forest.
The rebels, who belonged to Keshkal Dalam - a local unit of banned Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) - were picked up from Kanker district, comprising the 40,000 sq km Bastar along with Dantewada, Bijapur, Bastar and Narayanpur.
“They were in large numbers when a joint contingent of Border Security Force, district force and special police officers raided their meeting venue. We caught three of them while others managed to slip into forests,” Kanker’s Superintendent of Police Ajay Yadavtold IANS over phone.
He added that police recovered guns, detonators and other explosive items from the three who had been identified as Shivlal, Mayaram and Itwaru Ram.
