New Delhi, Aug 14 (IANS) The Wildlife Crime Control Bureau (WCCB) has seized three leopard skins and arrested two people of an alleged interstate gang of poachers in Dehradun in Uttarakhand, the ministry of environment and forest said here Thursday. According to a ministry official, a joint team of the Uttarakhand Special Task Force and the WCCB carried the drive against the poachers of tigers, leopards and rhino.
The two men were arrested near Dehradun main bus stand Wednesday. While one hails from Uttarakhand, the other is from Ludhiana in Punjab.
The number of tigers and leopards in the wild in India is dwindling and the experts have claimed that poaching is the primary reason for it. The WCCB became operational early this year to crack down on poachers.
In another case, two tribals were arrested and a leopard skin was seized from them in Chhattisgarh in the last week of July, the official said.
