Three killed, 40 hutments gutted in fire
April 23rd, 2011 - 11:46 pm ICT by IANSLakhimpur Kheri (Uttar Pradesh), April 23 (IANS) At least three people, including two minors, were burnt to death, and around 40 hutments gutted in a fire that broke out in a village in this Uttar Pradesh district Saturday, police said.
The fire broke out in Kanshirampurwa village in the evening and spread to a large area within a few minutes. Five fire tenders were pressed into service to .
“While three people died on the spot, 10 people have suffered multiple burns in the incident. All the injured are being treated at a hospital, where the condition of three or four is stated to be critical,” Police Inspector Jitendra Singh told reporters in Lakhimpur Kheri, some 150 km from Lucknow.
According to police, the exact reason behind the fire is yet to be ascertained.
Six people were killed in Lakhimpur’s Mohammadi town last Sunday, after a fire broke out and spread to around 22 adjoining villages. The incident took place after some agricultural waste was burnt in open fields in Mohammadi.
