December 25th, 2010 - 11:25 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Dec 25 (IANS) Three men were arrested here with counterfeit notes of Rs.13,700, police said Saturday.Shabbir Alam, 42, Sunil Kumar Singh, 46 and Karamat Hussain, 45, all hailing from Bihar, were arrested Friday in central Delhi.
“The three were nabbed from Chawri Bazaar metro station. A total of 274 fake currency notes of Rs.50 denomination were recovered,” a police officer said.
He said that Alam, a tailor, was going through a financial crisis. He came in contact with a person named Surender, who induced him to traffic fake currency for earning quick money.
“Their modus operandi was to look for soft targets like illiterates, senior citizens and minors. They used to offer them assistance in counting their money and while counting, they changed the genuine notes with the fake ones,” he said.
Investigations are on to find the source of the supply, he added.
