Ranchi, March 9 (IANS) The Jharkhand police Sunday arrested three people and seized heroin and brown sugar worth over Rs.15 million ($375,000) from them. “The market price of the seized narcotic drugs will be around Rs.15 million,” said M.S. Bhatia, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Ranchi.
“Some bags of heroin and brown sugar were marked Made in Thailand. This is the biggest ever seizure of heroin and brown sugar by the police here,” he added.
In Jharkhand, farmers are involved in the cultivation of opium - the raw material for heroin and brown sugar. The police have destroyed opium plants in several acres of land in recent months.
