Three held for taking bets on Sri Lanka-Kenya match
March 3rd, 2011 - 12:09 am ICT by IANSNew Delhi March 2 (IANS) Continuing its crackdown on betting syndicates during the 2011 World Cup, three people were arrested in north Delhi for taking bets during the Sri Lanka-Kenya match, police said Wednesday.
Navjeet Singh, 29, Shailesh Payal Kalu, 34, Karan Singh Chadha, 28, were caught from Ashok Vihar of north Delhi Tuesday, police said.
“We have seized 12 mobile phones, a television set, four laptops and data cards used for betting. We received a tip off that heavy betting was underway on the match between Sri Lanka and Kenya in a flat in Ashok Vihar,” a police official said.
According to police, the recording facility on the mobile phone was used for keeping records of bets placed by customers and another set of phones were used for receiving the rates.
