Three held for supplying spurious liquor in Delhi

New Delhi, May 6 (IANS) A man, his wife and his mother have been arrested for allegedly supplying spurious liquor that caused the death of over 30 people in the last two months in the capital, police said Wednesday.
Gautam alias Cheeku, 36, his wife Maya, 35, and mother Manjeet Kaur, 55, were arrested for supplying spurious country made liquor, which resulted in many deaths, mainly of labourers, in Dabri, Khyala and Rajouri Garden during March and April.

Gautam is said to be involved in 12 cases, Maya in 11 and Kaur in 10 cases of arms act and excise act earlier.

“Gautam, his wife Maya and his mother Manjeet Kaur were responsible for supply of spurious liquor in Dabri, Khyala and Rajouri Garden areas after getting it from the persons who had manufactured it for illicit gain,” additional commissioner of police (Crime Branch) Satyendra Garg said.

“A man-hunt had been launched to apprehend them and teams had been sent to Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh and Punjab as there were specific information that the absconding accused had taken shelter in those areas,” he added.

The police have registered at least 26 cases in the hooch tragedy. The accused arrested earlier are: Kamla, 52, her husband Rajender, 48, Mukesh Gupta, 35, Kaushalya, 62, and Seema, 30.
