Three held for kidnapping, killing school chairman

New Delhi, April 24 (IANS) Three people have been arrested here for allegedly kidnapping and murdering chairman of a privately run school for a Rs.1 million ransom last month, the police said Thursday. Sleuths of Delhi Police Crime Branch arrested Chattar Singh Jain, 46, and Miraj Hussain Khan, 29, Wednesday for abducting and murdering Balbir Singh, 54, in Dwarka area March 23. Their third accomplice Manoj Kumar, 31, was arrested April 16.

Singh was the chairman of MBD Arya Model School and ran a business in property in the same area.

The police said during investigation it was found that Singh was last seen with Jain, who was also missing from his home.

Local intelligence found that Jain was in constant touch with Kumar and Khan for the last two months, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) Anil Shukla said.

“Kumar confessed his involvement in the crime and disclosed that on March 23 they had laced Singh’s drink with sedatives. Thereafter, they drove him to Rohtak in a car and strangulated him with a plastic rope. They dumped his body in a field there,” Shukla said.

“The accused then called Singh’s family for Rs.1 million ransom for his safe release. The accused said they were in a need of money and knew that Singh’s family can afford tp pay any amount in ransom,” he added.

The police said Jain knew Singh for the past few years.
