Kolkata, Feb 16 (IANS) A West Bengal court Monday sent two engineering students and a management student to 14-day judicial custody for allegedly raping a girl last week.

Two students of a private engineering college - Saptarshi and Tamnay - live in a rented flat at Santoshpur area under Jadavpur police station in South 24-Parganas district. On Saturday, they invited a female classmate to their place for a party, which was attended by another friend of the duo, Rishi Sengupta, who is a management student, the police said.

The girl lodged an FIR at Jadavpur police station Sunday alleging she was raped by the three boys.

The three boys were arrested Sunday and brought before a district court Monday, which remanded them in 14-day judicial custody.

According to the district police superintendent Ajay Ranade, the boys drugged the girl before raping her.

“Tanmoy invited the girl to his flat saying there will be a party and other girls will also be present there. But, on reaching the spot, she found there were no girls except her. However, the boys assured her the party will be over by 7 p.m.,” Ranade said.

“Tanmay offered her soft drinks around 5.30 p.m. She began to feel drowsy after drinking the soft drink. It seems she was drugged by the boys,” Ranade said.

According to police sources, the girl wrote in her FIR that the three boys raped her while she was semi-conscious and too weak to resist after being drugged.

“She also alleged that the other boys, who were present there, didn’t come for to her help, but stood there as mere spectators,” a senior police officer at Jadavpur police station said.

The girl, a resident of Malda district, was staying as a paying guest in Tanmay’s neighbourhood.
