Three bodies recovered in West Bengal
May 21st, 2010 - 9:13 pm ICT by IANSKolkata, May 21 (IANS) Three unidentified bodies were recovered from a Maoist-infested belt in West Bengal’s Bankura district Friday, police said.
“We have recovered three bodies from Sarenga area. The bodies have not yet been identified,” Bankura Superintendent of Police Vishal Garg said.
The bodies were found in a field in a forested stretch of the district.
Garg said it could not be said for certain that Maoists were involved in the killings. “Only a probe would reveal this.”
Maoists are active in West Bengal’s three western districts of West Midnapore, Bankura and Purulia.
Four Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) workers were shot dead by Maoists in West Midnapore district and their bodies were found May 14.
The Maoist insurgency began in West Bengal in 1967.
