New Delhi, Jan 15 (IANS) Three people, including an employee of an electrical appliances store, were arrested for cloning a credit card and purchasing electrical goods worth lakhs of rupees from the store in south Delhi, police said Saturday.Neeraj Mangla, 26, Chander Mohan Rawat, 29, both residents of Faridabad, Haryana and Amit Sharma, 30, a resident of Delhi, bought goods worth Rs.3.50 lakh from the shop Croma in a shopping mall in Saket, south Delhi.

“The accused had cloned an Amex credit card belonging to a prominent south Delhi jeweller and had committed the crime Dec 24, 2010. The trio loaded articles worth Rs.1.72 lakh in their car and asked the manager to deliver the remaining order on a fake address,” a police officer said.

“When the store employees went to deliver the articles, they failed to locate the house and realised that the address did not exist. The number given by the accused too was not reachable,” the police officer added.

The store then contacted the bank and found that the card was fake. The police were informed Jan 12.

During the course of investigation, a few store employees were questioned and it was discovered that a similar incident had taken place last year in a mall in Faridabad where Sharma worked earlier. He was suspected to be behind the fraud and had to leave the job.

“Sharma was employed as an accountant in this particular store too. So, the possibility of his involvement in this case was strong. His acquaintances Neeraj and Chander were interrogated and they confessed to the crime,” the police officer said.

Police recovered articles worth Rs.1.50 lakh from their possession.
