Terrorism to remain issue for party: BJPDecember 8th, 2008 - 9:32 pm ICT by IANS
New Delhi, Dec 8 (IANS) The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Monday stated terrorism would continue to be an issue for the party, irrespective of the outcome of the state assembly elections.“Terrorism was certainly the issue and it will continue to remain so for the party,” BJP general secretary Arun Jaitley told reporters here.
He said the party’s performance was good in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh but it was below expectation in Delhi.
“In Rajasthan, we should have done better on the strength of our performance, but there was a lapse on our past. The party could have done better had we been able to put our house in order and avoid large number of rebels there,” he said.
Jaitley said the party president would constitute a group to analyse the results of elections and suggest reports and recommendations to strengthen the party.
“It is difficult to say which issue in which state would become predominant. We will all come to know once this new group completes its review,” he said.
Jaitley said elected legislators of Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh would hold a meeting in their respective states to elect their leader Wednesday.
As central party observers, Venkaiah Naidu and Ananth Kumar will go to Madhya Pradesh, while Ravi Shankar Prasad and Dharmender Kumar would go to Chhattisgarh.
