Ten students injured as van overturns
March 22nd, 2011 - 3:07 pm ICT by IANSBulandshahr (Uttar Pradesh), March 22 (IANS) At least 10 students were injured when the school van they were travelling in overturned and fell in a deep ditch here Tuesday, police said.
The accident occurred in Jahangirabad town, when the van carrying students of the Uma Public School spun out of control, landed in a ditch and overturned.
“With the help of passers-by, we managed to take out the students trapped inside the vehicle. All the injured students are being treated at a hospital. Two-three students have received serious injuries,” police inspector Naresh Kumar told reporters in Bulandshahr, some 400 km from Lucknow.
“The injured students are aged 8-11 years,” he added.
Eyewitnesses told the police that the bus was speeding and spun out of control when the driver suddenly applied brakes to avoid hitting a two-wheeler.
The driver ran away after the accident.
