Temple, gurdwara looted in Chandigarh
November 16th, 2009 - 11:45 pm ICT by IANSChandigarh, Nov 16 (IANS) Thieves struck at a temple here and its neighbouring gurdwara early Monday and took away cash and jewellery of the idols, police said.
According to the police, the robbers broke various locks before gaining entry into the premises of the Sanatan Dharam Mandir and Singh Sabha gurudwara here in Sector 7, and fled with around Rs. 45,000 in cash and various other valuables.
“Thieves had broken the locks of cash-boxes placed at the temple and at the gurdwara. They also took away the jewellery worn by the idols,” a police official said.
“We have registered a case against some unknown persons and started our investigation. We are recording the statements of people working there and we are hopeful of arresting the thieves very soon,” the official added.
