Telangana New Delhi, July 20 (IANS) A 23-year-old supporter of separate Telangana, apparently upset over the delay in granting statehood to the region, was found hanging from a tree in India Gate lawns Wednesday, police said.

Mandadi Adhireddy, who appeared to have committed suicide, belonged to Telangana region in Andhra Pradesh and had reached Delhi Monday from Hyderabad.

“We received a call around 7.30 a.m. and took the body to the Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital where doctors declared him dead,” a police official said.

“We have recovered a 10-page suicide letter written in Telugu from the spot which is being translated,” the official added.

India Gate is a high security area close to Rashtrapati Bhavan and Parliament House.

There has been a continuous tussle between the government and groups demanding a separate Telangana and earlier this month fifteen MPs and over 100 legislators belonging to various parties in the region, including Andhra’s ruling Congress, submitted their resignations to press the demand for a separate state.

Hyderabad’s Osmania University has been the nerve centre of the Telangana agitation and has witnessed clashes between students and police since the latest phase of the agitation began earlier this month.
