Hyderabad, Nov 21 (IANS) Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) chief K. Chandrasekhar Rao Monday said his party along with the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) would stall parliament on the Telangana issue.
He told reporters here that the TRS would devise a strategy with the support of the Bahujan Samaj Party to stall the winter session of parliament beginning Tuesday, to demand immediate steps for formation of a separate Telangana state.
KCR, as Rao is popularly known, once again urged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to table a bill during the winter session for carving out a Telangana state from Andhra Pradesh.
“If the government believes in democracy, it should respect the sentiments of Telangana people by introducing a bill for Telangana state,” he said.
KCR and another TRS MP,, Vijayshanti, Monday left for New Delhi to attend the parliament session.
Making it clear that no alternative would be acceptable to people in the Telangana region, KCR warned that the Congress would be buried if it tried to further delay statehood to Telangana.
The TRS leader reminded the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government of its Dec 9, 2009, statement that the process for formation of a separate Telangana state would be initiated.
He demanded that the government should respect the resolution passed by the Uttar Pradesh assembly for division of that state in four smaller states.
Hailing Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati’s “bold” decision, the TRS leader said smaller states were necessary to hasten their development.
“On behalf of four and half crore people of the Telangana region, I thank Mayawatiji for her support to Telangana,” he said.
