Ghaziabad, Oct 22 (IANS) A 15-year-old girl was critically injured after a group of armed men, who have been following her for a month, barged into her house here and thrashed her and her family members for spurning their advances, police said Wednesday.Urmila, a Class 10 student, was Tuesday night assaulted by five men armed with knives, pistols and iron rods after they forcibly entered her house in Daulatpura residential locality in Ghaziabad.

Urmila’s father Anant, in his complaint to the police, said that the men - identified as Anil, Sunil, Kalu, Dimpy and Amit - dragged his daughter and attacked her, while the family watched helplessly because the miscreants were brandishing pistols and knives.

One of them hit Urmila on the head, resulting in a sharp cuit that required 15 stitches, her father, a commercial tax department employee, told the police. When her brothers Omit and Sanjay opposed them, they thrashed them and mother Chandrawati too.

Urmila, who is in hospital, told IANS that four of the men had been following her for a month and had wanted her to become their friend. When she refused, they started teasing and taunting her every time she passed through the street. They even threatened to deface her by throwing acid.

The teenager, a student of Sushila Girls Inter College, added that even her brothers were scared to confront them.

Superintendent of Police (city) Vijay Bhushan said that a complaint has been registered but no arrests have been made so far.
