Teen dies in car accident near Rajpath (Lead)
March 18th, 2010 - 8:37 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, March 18 (IANS) An evening out to watch an IPL cricket match turned into tragedy when a 14-year-old boy was killed in a car accident in the heart of the capital Thursday, police said.
Harshit, who was returning home with his family after watching the Delhi Daredevils-Mumbai Indians match at the Ferozeshah Kotla stadium, died when their WagonR was hit around 1.30 a.m. by a speeding Mitsubishi Lancer, a sports utility vehicle.
The seriously injured boy died at the Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, Deputy Commissioner of Police (New Delhi) S. Dash told IANS. Two others were injured in the accident near Rajpath.
The Lancer, driven by Saurav Jain, rammed into the car so hard that it rolled over twice.
“We have arrested Jain. His medical examination report shows he had not consumed alcohol. The accident occurred due to speeding,” Dash said.
“The injured have been shifted to a private hospital by their families,” another officer said.
