Ghaziabad, Nov 12 (IANS) Team Anna Saturday urged MPs to support its Jan Lokpal bill, claiming that 99.5 percent people in Rae Bareli, the Lok Sabha constituency of Congress president Sonia Gandhi, have said they wouldn’t elect her back if she doesn’t support it.

They also claimed that 98.3 percent people in Amethi, the Lok Sabha constituency of Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi, had the same view.

Only 500 out of over one lakh people in Rae Bareli said they would still vote for Sonia, members of Team Anna said Saturday while releasing the results of a referendum that began Sep 25 in 14 constituencies.

A total of 16 constituencies were covered under the survey, they said.

“We urge the elected representatives to heed the wish of the people to bring the strongest anti-corruption law,” Team Anna member Manish Sisodia told reporters here.

According to the referendum, an overwhelming 96.5 percent people (average of result in 14 constituencies) said they shall not vote for their representative in the next elections if he/she doesn’t support the Jan Lokpal bill drafted by Team Anna, within the parliamentary standing committee on law and justice examining the Lokpal issue, as well as in parliament.

In Ghaziabad, the Lok Sabha constituency of Bharatiya Janata Party leader Rajnath Singh, 94.4 percent people said they shall not vote him again if he doesn’t support the Jan Lokpal in parliament, according to the survey.

Team Anna members said that in Uttar Pradesh, 91.8 percent people of Mainpuri, constituency of Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav, supported the Jan Lokpal bill.

Members of Team Anna’s core committee, who conducted the referendum in various parts of the state, said if the Jan Lokpal bill is not passed in the winter session of parliament, Uttar Pradesh is prepared for the next phase of agitation.

“People have demonstrated through the referendum that they won’t vote for the Congress,” another Team Anna member claimed.

According to the referendum, a majority of people across the country support the Jan Lokpal bill.

In Chhapra, Bihar, 94.3 percent people said they would not vote for Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad if he doesn’t support the Jan Lokpal bill.

In Ludhiana, the Lok Sabha constituency of Congress spokesperson Manish Tiwari, 95.8 percent people said they want their MP to support the Jan Lokpal bill.

Team Anna members said the referendum was carried out in total 16 constituencies across the country.

Out of total 20 members from the Lok Sabha in the parliamentary standing committee looking into the Lokpal issue, referendum was carried out in constituencies of 10 leaders such as Lalu Prasad, Manish Tiwari, Kirti Azad and others, they said.
