Teachers approach court for revised salaries
February 27th, 2010 - 5:14 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Feb 27 (IANS) Twenty one teachers of the Guru Nanak Public School, West Punjabi Bagh here, approached the Delhi High Court saying the school was not implementing the sixth pay commission recommendations.
The teachers filed their petition through advocates Ashok Agarwal and Kusum Sharma and pleaded that why their salaries were not revised according to the sixth pay commission recommendations under the Delhi School Education Act.
Justice Kailash Gambhir Friday issued notice to the school and the Director of Education, and asked them to file their responses by April 28.
The counsel for the teachers submitted: “The school is obliged in law to pay revised salaries to the employees in terms of sixth pay commission recommendations from January, this year onwards, but is not doing so.
“The employees working with unaided recognized private schools are entitled to salaries in the revised pay scales. Non-payment of salaries in the revised pay scales is in violation of fundamental rights of the petitioners.”
The teachers also demanded the bonus which has not been paid to them since 2004-05 and travelling allowance or other expenses that has never been given to them.
Stressing the reason for the teachers to approach the court, Agarwal said: “The school has not implemented the recommendations at all. In spite of repeated requests, reminders and representations to the school by the teachers, no payment was ever made by the school.”
