New Delhi, Feb 2 (IANS) The Delhi High Court Tuesday got an assurance from Tata Motors and Ashok Leyland that they will quickly supply low-floor buses as sought by the Delhi government.
A division bench of Justices Vikramjit Sen and Manmohan Singh asked Tata Motors and Ashok Leyland to file a detailed affidavit as to when they will be able to provide the buses to the government so that phasing out of the Blueline buses, dubbed “killer buses” by the public, can be done at the earliest.
Tata Motors’ counsel informed the court that they will supply 150 buses by Feb 15 and another 200 buses by Feb 28. Ashok Leyland’s counsel also said the company will also deliver 140 buses at regular intervals.
The court asked both the bus manufacturers to file a detailed affidavit by Feb 10.
At a previous hearing the court pulled up Tata Motors and Ashok Leyland for running way behind the prescribed schedule for supplying low-floor buses to the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC). The court even warned them of cancellation of contract.
A total of 3,124 low-floor buses are to be given to the DTC for phasing out the privately-owned Blueline buses from the capital’s roads by March.
