Tanzania launches UAE-funded highway project
July 7th, 2011 - 2:01 am ICT by IANSDar es Salaam, July 6 (IANS/WAM) A foundation stone for the UAE-funded 130-km highway project in Tanzania was laid by President Jakaya Kikwete and UAE Ambassador to the country Mallalla Mubarak Al Ameri, it was announced Wednesday.
The $75 million Kidahwe-Uvinza highway in Tanzania’s Kigoma region is funded by the Abu Dhabi Fund for Develpment.
President Kikwete said his country was grateful to UAE for the help.
Mubarak said the highway will help boost the economy in the region.
Besides connecting important cities within Tanzania, the highway will also link neighbouring countries such as Burundi, Rwanda and Congo.
