Tamil Nadu agriculture minister loses

Chennai, May 13 (IANS) Tamil Nadu’s Minister for Agriculture and senior DMK leader Veerapandi Arumugham lost to AIADMK candidate Vijayalakshmi Palanichamy in the Sankagiri constituency.
The margin of defeat was around 30,000 votes.
In Arantangi constituency, S. Thirunavukarasan, who joined Congress from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) lost to his AIADMK rival.
Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu Congress chief K.V. Thangkabalu was trailing his AIADMK opponent R. Rajalakshmi in Mylapore constituency by a huge margin.
Congress legislator Vishnu Prasad was trailing behind AIADMK’s N. Subramaniam in the Cheyyar constituency.
The Congress, which contested in 63 of the assembly’s 234 seats, was leading in just five seats.
