‘Taking all Delhi blast victims to one hospital irrational’
September 29th, 2011 - 8:06 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Sep 29 (IANS) Rushing all the injured in the Sep 7 blast at the Delhi High Court to Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) Hospital was not rational, doctors here said Thursday.
“The rescue operations were fast and commendable, but the redistribution system could have been better,” M.C. Misra, chief of the Jai Prakash Narayan Apex Trauma Centre (JPNATC) said at the curtain-raiser of the seventh ‘Indo-US Emergency Medicine Summit’.
The Sep 7 blast killed 15 people, and injured around 90 when a bomb concealed in a briefcase exploded outside Gate No.5 of the bustling high court.
“All 70 patients cannot be looked after in one particular hospital, even if it is the best in the world. We have protocols, but a redistribution system is missing,” Misra said.
According to doctors, a redistribution system helps give proper medical attention to all the patients without burdening any specific hospital.
Experts say it is the police and hospitals who have to take the call on redistributing patients.
The two-day summit this year will be emphasising on training nurses and paramedics along with doctors to face mass casualties in hospitals.
