Syed Akbaruddin is new spokesperson of India’s Foreign Office (Lead)
December 7th, 2011 - 7:29 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Dec 7 (IANS) Syed Akbaruddin, a senior diplomat who has served in key capitals, will be the next spokesperson of India’s external affairs ministry.
Akbaruddin will succeed Vishnu Prakash, who was named Wednesday as India’s next ambassador to South Korea.
Akbaruddin’s appointment has not been formally announced, but an order to that effect has been issued, said official sources.
A 1985 batch Indian Foreign Service Officer, Akbaruddin has a varied resume that includes stints as consul general in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia and joint secretary (administration) in the external affairs ministry.
The 51-year-old diplomat has also served in India’s Permanent Mission in New York and in Indian missions in Cairo, Riyadh and Islamabad.
In 2006, he was sent on deputation to the Vienna-based International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
