Nov. 15, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Thanksgiving is a time of the year that many people consider as a time for reunion with family members and relatives. It is also associated with a lot of yummy dishes too. However, every year people tend to use some specific [and innovative] type of ingredients for making the bakery foods like pastries and cookies. Pumpkin pies are quite popular during thanksgiving but this year the focus has shifted towards Sweet potato. In fact, Sweet potato pie is a recipe that is easy to cook and tastes delicious.

The Thanksgiving food choice also depends on the cultural upbringing of a person. Generally Pumpkin pies are meant for occasions like Halloween. Sweet potato pie is loved by the foodies for its great taste and silky smooth texture. It is popular in the Afro American homes, particularly in the bay region. The recipe is loved and prepared by a lot of people but few bother to write it down. The basic ingredients include eggs, nutmeg, vanilla, butter etc. The expert chefs suggest the mixture needs to be tested by sight and feel.

Sweet potato pie is associated with the distant past of US history and heritage. It is linked with the African slave trade, the Antebellum South and Europe. The Colonists of New England were traditionally fond of pumpkin based dishes until they tasted the sweet potato based delicacies prepared by the Southerners. The Sweet potatoes were similar to sweet Yams, a produce of Africa. They improved the sweet potato pie by adding stuffs like cream, butter and wine etc.
