SUV of MP and Akali Dal president hits bus, two constables killed

Amritsar, Aug 16 (IANS) Two police constables were killed when the bullet-proof Mitsubishi Pajero of Akali Dal president and MP Sukhbir Badal collided with a private bus near here, police said Saturday. Sukhbir Badal is the son of Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal. The constables who died in the accident late late Friday night are Rajinder Singh and Gursewak Singh, Jandiala township station house officer (SHO) Harkrishan Singh told IANS.

The two men were part of Badal’s security team and were travelling in the Pajero.

Badal was not in the Pajero or any other vehicle of his convoy when the accident took place.

The SHO said Badal’s vehicle was badly damaged in the accident that took place near Manawala. The convoy was headed from Chandigarh to Baba Bakala town for a political conference in which Badal is to participate later Saturday.

Badal has the highest category (Z-plus) security cover. His convoy includes several vehicles, including two bullet-proof Pajero sports utility vehicles (SUVs) and one that jams mobile phone signals.
