Chandigarh, Feb 12 (IANS) A senior officer of Punjab, who was suspended after a corruption case was filed against him, Friday filed a police complaint against the vigilance officials claiming that the case was “false and fabricated”.
V.K. Janjua, former Punjab director for industries, filed his complaint with the police against Punjab Vigilance Director and additional Director General of Police Sumedh Singh Saini and other senior officials, including superintendent of police and deputy superintendent of police.

Janjua, a 1989 batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer, was arrested in November last year from his Sector 17 office here by a vigilance department team. He was booked for accepting bribe.

Vigilance officials received a complaint against Janjua from Ludhiana-based businessman P.R. Misra. He alleged that Janjua was demanding Rs.600,000 bribe from him. A special team of vigilance sleuths from Ludhiana caught Janjua red-handed.

“I was implicated in a totally false and fabricated case by the Punjab vigilance. They took law in their hands and under a criminal conspiracy staged a fake trap and arrested me,” Janjua said.

“They entangled me in a false corruption case and in pursuance of this criminal conspiracy they fabricated false evidence, kidnapped me from my office and kept me in wrongful confinement,” he added.

“There is not even an iota of truth in the case registered against me. They said that I demanded the money on Nov 9 (last year) whereas this case was already disposed of on Nov 1,” stated Janjua.

“I have all the evidence with me and I will prove that Saini and his men had hatched a false criminal case against me,” he said.

Meanwhile, Chandigarh police have not registered any case against Saini, saying there was nothing ‘concrete’ in the complaint.

“There is nothing concrete in this complaint. So far we have not taken any action but we are still investigating,” Deputy Superintendent of Police (central) Jagbir Singh told IANS.
