Suspected Maoists torch truck in Bengal
February 6th, 2011 - 6:27 pm ICT by IANSKolkata, Feb 6 (IANS) Suspected Maoists set on fire a truck carrying sponge iron in West Bengal’s West Midnapore district Sunday morning, police said.The truck was torched on state highway No.9 that passes through Kalaboni forest in Jhargram sub-division of the district, West Midnapore’s Additional Police Superintendent Mukesh Kumar told IANS over phone.
“The road was dug up and blocked by felling trees. We suspect that the Maoists are involved,” he added.
Fire tenders were rushed to the spot to douse the blaze.
Maoists are active in three western districts of the state - West Midnapore, Bankura and Purulia.
