Sukra Khurami, 35, was found in a pool of blood on a road near his village Mariguda under Padia police station, over 600 km from Bhubaneswar. His throat had been slit.
District Superintendent of Police Akhileshwar Singh said the man was known to be a Maoist supporter. “Why they killed him will be known only after an investigation,” he told IANS.
Khurami had gone to a nearby village market Monday night but did not return home. Villagers spotted his body around 10 a.m. Tuesday, Singh said.
Maoists are active in more than half of Odisha’s 30 districts. Malkangiri is considered their stronghold.
