Suspected ‘honour killing’, three held (Lead)
July 4th, 2011 - 9:53 pm ICT by IANSLudhiana, July 4 (IANS) A Dalit man was allegedly kidnapped and murdered by his girlfriend’s family members in Punjab’s Ludhiana district, police said Monday.
Gagandeep Singh, 21, of Lamma Jattpur village was trying to elope with a minor girl from a Jat family of the same village Saturday when a bus driver tipped off the family.
Police said his body was found near a canal late Monday.
“The boy’s family has complained that he was kidnapped by the girl’s family Saturday and murdered on Sunday,” said a police officer. “We have detained three men for questioning,” he said.
Many cases of ‘honour killings’ have rocked Punjab in the last few months.
