August 27th, 2010 - 2:55 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Aug 27 (IANS) The Supreme Court Friday allowed the Indian Olympic Association and Hockey India to select and field the men’s and women’s hockey teams for the Commonwealth Games to be held in October.
An apex court bench of Justice R.V. Raveendran and Justice H.L. Gokhle said the coaches engaged in training the two teams would also be involved in the selection process.
The sports ministry recently derecognised Hockey India, which is affiliated to the international organisation FIH, and upheld the claim of the K.P.S. Gill-led Indian Hockey Federation as the authorised apex body of the game in the country.
