Patna, March 27 (IANS) Anand Kumar, who founded Super 30, Bihar’s widely acclaimed free coaching centre, has welcomed the reforms announced by the Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT) for its joint entrance examination (JEE).
Kumar said Sunday that the decision by the IITs to post on the internet the scanned answer sheets of all students would bring in much-needed transparency.
The IITs have also decided to announce the correct answers to all the questions in the entrance examination within 48 hours of the test.
Kumar’s Super 30 has helped many poor students from Bihar to enter the prestigious IITs.
“These changes will restore students’ faith in the system,” Kumar told IANS.
He said he had met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Human Resources Development Minister Kapil Sibal last year with his suggestions for reforms in the IIT JEE.
One of the suggestions he proposed was to offer an additional chance to rural students to write the examination.
Kumar had also pleaded for including conceptual and analytical type of questions based syllabus only up to Class XII, which would reduce the role of coaching institutions.
He had also urged them to allow three attempts to students in view of the vast disparity in the educational system.
Kumar founded the Super 30 in 2002 and in eight years has helped 212 students clear the IIT entrance test. During the last three years, all the 30 students of the institute made it to the IITs, drawing worldwide attention.
Most of the successful candidates have been from the poor sections of society, who were provided with free food, lodging and coaching.
