Sudarsan aims new record with sand Santa on Christmas eve
December 24th, 2010 - 11:36 pm ICT by IANSBhubaneswar, Dec 24 (IANS) Internationally acclaimed sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik Friday created a sculpture of Santa Claus on the beach at Orissa’s Puri town on the eve of Christmas to create a new world record.Pattnaik said he had created a similar sculpture in 2006 during Christmas which was 100 feet long and had won a place in the Limca Book of Records.
“This time I have created a 160 feet long sand replica of Santa Claus with the help of my students which is much bigger and longer,” he said.
Santa Claus is usually identified with snow, but the latest image Pattnaik created has used green colour with the message ‘Go Green’.
“I used 1,500 tonnes of sand and devoted 16 hours to build this new image,” he told IANS.
“With the green message I wanted to create awareness among the people about the adverse impact of global warming,” he said.
Pattnaik said he has already informed officials of the Limca Book of Records about the latest sculpture. He hoped that it will find place in the upcoming edition of the record book.
