Sub-inspector arrested for acid attack on woman
November 27th, 2010 - 12:15 am ICT by IANSMoradabad (Uttar Pradesh), Nov 26 (IANS) A police sub-inspector and his wife were arrested after they threw acid on a woman after a dispute over money in this Uttar Pradesh district Friday, police said.
Victim Lakshmi Devi, the wife of a police constable, suffered multiple burns and is being treated at a hospital.
“Her (Lakshmi’s) condition is stated to serious. She has received more than 50 percent burns,” police inspector G.C. Tyagi told reporters in the city, about 350 km from Lucknow.
According to the police, sub-inspector R.B.N. Gangwar and his wife first had a verbal duel with Lakshmi, their neighbour in the Moodhapandey area. Later, Gangwar and his wife threw acid on her and fled.
The duo was later arrested from the outskirts of the city.
