Students march to parliament for Telangana Friday

New Delhi, March 10 (IANS) Students from various organisations across the country will march to parliament Friday, demanding that a bill for the formation of a separate Telangana state be introduced in the ongoing budget session.
Students under the banner of Students’ Solidarity Committee for Separate Telangana will march from Mandi House to Parliament House at 11 a.m. and later hold a protest meeting at Parliament Street.
Organisations like the All India Backward Students’ Front (AIBSF), All India Students’ Association (AISA), Democratic Students’ Union (DSU), JNU Forum for Telangana, Manipur Students’ Association Delhi (MSAD), and Students’ Islamic Organisation (SIO) have extended their support to the march.
Parliamentarians K. Keshava Rao and Madhu Yaski, Communist Party of India deputy general secretary Suravaram Sudhakar Reddy, senior journalist Kuldip Nayar and Delhi University professor S.A.R Geelani are expected to address the gathering at Parliament Street.
“There is an urgent need to stand in solidarity with the people of Telangana in the coming phase of their struggle, and to build up a movement across the country in its support,” said Suneetha Eluri, a member of the committee.
The students are demanding implementation of the central government’s official statement on Dec 9, 2009 for formation of a separate Telangana state carved out ot Andhra Pradesh by introducing a bill in parliament.
