Student shot at inside examination hall
May 15th, 2010 - 6:57 pm ICT by IANSMeerut, May 15 (IANS) A student was Saturday shot at several times by an unidentified assailant inside an examination hall in Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut district, police said.
Deepak Rathi, who was taking his M.Phil entrance test at the Meerut College, was shot at five times inside the hall. “He is being treated at the Hope Hospital in Meerut, where his condition is critical,” police inspector Naresh Verma told reporters.
“We have constituted 15 teams to nab the man who shot at Rathi. We do not know the motive behind the attack,” he added.
According to eyewitnesses, the assailant entered the examination hall and started firing at Rathi. After firing five shots, the assailant walked out of the examination hall.
The incident triggered panic among examinees, who started running for cover, fearing they could also be injured.
