Student leader booked for firing in a land dispute

Noida, July 4 (IANS) A student leader was booked by Uttar Pradesh Police for allegedly firing in the air during a land dispute in his village, police said Friday. According to police officer Anil Samania, state vice-president of Congress-backed National Students’ Union of India Dinesh Awana was Wednesday night involved in a dispute over construction of a drain in his village Hajipur, near here.
During the confrontation, Awana allegedly took out his revolver and fired several shots in the air.
A case was registered by the police late Thursday night, the official said.
The rival group in their complaint have blamed Awana and three more villagers for the dispute.
