Student beaten to death on Allahabad university campus
December 14th, 2008 - 6:33 pm ICT by IANSLucknow, Dec 14 (IANS) Tension prevailed on the campus of the University of Allahabad in Uttar Pradesh after a student was beaten to death by six unidentified assailants, the police said Sunday.Pankaj Pandey, a second-year graduate student of fine arts, was attacked by six unidentified men on the university campus Saturday and died of injuries later in the evening.
“A case was lodged against six unknown youths and we have also detained two university students for questioning today (Sunday). Pandey was assaulted with sticks and rods,” Superintendent of Police (City) Avdhesh Vijeta told IANS.
Following the incident, students blocked roads and ransacked the private hospital where Pandey was taken for treatment.
“We have deployed paramilitary forces on the university campus as a precautionary measure,” Vijeta said.
