Strong quake hits Java

Jakarta, July 20 (Xinhua) An earthquake of 5.9 magnitude on the Richter scale rocked Yogyakarta province in central Java island of Indonesia Sunday, the Meteorology Agency said here. The quake was also felt in other parts of central and east Java, Jajat Sudjatmika, an official of the agency said.

It struck at 1 a.m. (0605GMT) with its epicentre located at 135 km southeast of Yogyakarta and 10 km under the seabed, he said.

The intensity of the quake was felt at Sawahan town of Central Java province and Trenggalek and Karangkates towns of East Java province, said Sudjatmika.

There was no immediate report of death or damage, the official said.
