Street vendors’ meet in Delhi next month
October 28th, 2010 - 7:11 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Oct 28 (IANS) The head of StreetNet International, a global alliance of street vendors’ associations, will come down to Delhi Nov 1 to hold talks with street vendors to understand their problems and suggest solutions.
Pat Horn, the head of StreetNet International, will hold consultations with the National Association of Street Vendors of India (NASVI) - an umbrella organisation of other smaller groups of street vendors across the country - Nov 1.
Ranjit Abhigyan, programme manager of NASVI, said: “The focus of the consultation will be to firm up ways for developing synergy with appropriate institutions of governance to ensure the livelihood independence of street vendors”.
“The consultation hold special significance in the backdrop of the recent Supreme Court verdict emphasising on ensuring the fundamental right of vendors,” he added.
Horn is scheduled to meet a few street vendors Nov 2, along with activists and political leaders.
