Stolen medicines racket busted

New Delhi, Dec 20 (IANS) Seven people, including a staffer of Sir Ganga Ram Hospital (SGRH), have been arrested for siphoning off medicines from Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS) and the hospital and selling them in the open market, police said Tuesday.

Stolen medicines worth more than Rs.30 lakh have been recovered.

The arrested include four chemist shop owners in Bhagirath Place market in central Delhi.

“The chemist shop owners and the pharmacist-cum-store keeper of SGRH have been arrested for misappropriation of the hospital’s medicines. Two other people involved in the racket have also been arrested,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police Ashok Chand.

The SGRH staffer was identified as Rajender Chauhan, while others are Hardip Singh, a contractor of CGHS medicines, Vivek Singh, Vijay Ahuja, Atul Jain, Sachin Kumar and Satish Kathuria.
