Iraq Rape SlayingFormer U.S.Army soldier Steven Dale Green, of Midland Texas, who was indicted for rape and murder of 14 year Iraqi, Abeer Kassem Al-Janabi, has been sentenced to life imprisonment on Friday. The crime took place in 2006, March. Green was denied parole, and given the penalty after judges failed to come to unanimous decision for death penalty reportedly.

Steven was in the 101st Airborne Division in Ft. Campbell, Kentucky. He was part of the gang rape, and the alleged murder of family members of Al-Janabi, that occurred about 20 miles away from Baghdad. The 14 year old was monstrously shot thrice in her head, and her body extirpated by fire. The gang executed their nefarious activity under the disguise of Iraqi resistance.

Judge Thomas Russell of the U.S. District Court in Paducah, Kentucky, pronounced the final life sentence. Green during his court hearing reportedly reprimanded the judge saying, “You can act like I’m a sociopath. You can act like I’m a sex offender or whatever. If I had not joined the Army, if I had not gone to Iraq, I would not have got caught up in anything.”

Unless there is presidential pardon Green has no chance for acquittal whatsoever. As per the Reuters, “execution is commonplace in Iraq and across the Middle East for lesser crimes than Green’s.”

Green faced numerous charges only after he was asked to leave the army on pretext of his “personality disorder”. Three other criminals who were found guilty of having committed the inhuman incident, got upto 110 years of term, to serve behind bars but could contest for parole after serving 7 years.
