Lucknow, March 19 (IANS) A stepfather and mother have been arrested in Uttar Pradesh for attempting to kill their daughter after she refused to enter the flesh trade, the police said Thursday.
“Shyam Sunder, 26, and Usha, 40, from Palanpur in Gujarat had brought their 20-year-old daughter to Lucknow last month to hand her over to some pimps they were in contact with,” police inspector Sanjay Rai told IANS.

“The couple had brought the girl to Lucknow on the pretext of getting her married. However, when the girl came to know about the intentions of her parents, she threatened to approach the police,” Rai said.

Following this, the couple with two of their aides March 11 gave poison to the girl and abandoned her in the forest of Kukrail, thinking that she was dead, the police said.

The girl, who was in a critical condition, was later admitted to a hospital by a passer-by.

At present, the girl is being treated in the Balrampur Hospital where her condition is now out of danger, the police said.

“In her statement, the victim has also alleged that her stepfather also used to sexually exploit her in Gujarat and on several occasions forced her to have illicit relationships with some youths there,” said Rai.

Besides the two parents, one of their aides has been arrested. The other aide is absconding.

Around three years back, after the death of her husband, Usha married Sunder, who is a property dealer having businesses in Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh.
