Chandigarh, March 16 (IANS) Staff members of two leading national news channels clashed at an event in Chandigarh Monday, landing one cameraman in hospital with head injuries, the police said.
According to the police, mediapersons from various newspapers and news channels collected in Sector-17 to cover an event when the cameraman and reporter of Star News attacked the staff of their competitor channel Sahara Samay.

In the clash, Ashutosh Kumar, cameraman of Sahara Samay, suffered head injuries and a fractured arm. He had to be hospitalised. Doctors said his condition is stable.

“On the basis of the complaint from Vishal Monga of Sahara Samay, a case has been registered against Jagwinder Patiyal of Star News. We have recorded the statements of both parties,” Ramesh Chand Sharma, station house officer of Sector-17 police station, told IANS.

He said that the police are investigating and waiting for the final medical report before taking any further action.

A senior police official told IANS that it seemed a case of old enmity as a few days back staff members of Sahara Samay had attacked the cameraman of Star News and injured him. It seems that Star News tried to settle the old score and they had come fully prepared for the purpose, the official added.
