Sri Lanka amateur golf: Chikka, Gagan win men’s team title

Kandy, Oct 20 (IANS) The Indian men’s team of S. Chikkrangrappa and Gagan Verma won the international team event at the Sri Lankan Amateur Open Golf Championships, edging out Bangladesh by one stroke here Thursday.

Chikka, made up for his first round 79 with an one-under 72 on the apr-73 course, while Gagan Verma, who had a 72 on first day shot 74 on the second day.

In the individual competition for men, Gagan is lying second and Chikka is sixth.

Indian girls Gurbani Singh and Gauri Monga finished second in the Ladies behind Malaysian duo of H Fariza Ismail, 14 years, and Loy Hee Ying, 17 years, topped the competition with a total of 302, while India totaled 304. Sri Lankans Niloo Jayatilleke and A Rasika were third at 339.

The match-play competition has begun for girls, where Gurbani won her match on the 15th, while Gauri lost her match. She was all square at 13th, but lost 15th and 17th to lose 2 and 1.
