Spurious liquor kills four, one murdered in Tripura
February 18th, 2010 - 3:24 pm ICT by IANSAgartala, Feb 18 (IANS) At least four men died and another took ill after drinking spurious liquor in a Tripura village, police said Thursday. In a separate incident, a tribal youth was murdered at a shop selling moonshine.
The four tribal men aged between 25 and 30 died at Chawmanu in northern Tripura, 135 km north of here, Wednesday after consuming contaminated country liquor, said a police spokesman.
“The liquor was made a few days back and in the most unhygienic way,” police said. Police arrested the country liquor manufacturer, who himself fell sick after consuming the moonshine.
In a separate liquor-related incident, a tribal was killed at Champahour village in western Tripura Wednesday.
“Swapan Debbarma, 35, was murdered during a quarrel at a country liquor den,” police said. Police arrested two people in this connection.
