SpiceJet’s Srinagar flight makes emergency landing at Delhi (Lead)
May 24th, 2010 - 9:31 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, May 24 (IANS) A Srinagar-bound SpiceJet aircraft made an emergency landing at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport shortly after take-off Monday afternoon because of a tyre problem, officials said. Later, all the 188 passengers were accommodated on another aircraft and flown to Srinagar.
“A Delhi-Srinagar SpiceJet aircraft, SG-224, which took off from the Delhi airport, had to make an emergency landing here at 2.40 p.m. today (Monday) after the Air Traffic Control informed the SpiceJet authorities that they noticed some tyre debris on the runway,” an airline official told IANS.
“Therefore, as a precautionary measure and keeping the safety of the passengers in mind, the flight made an emergency landing. Investigations are on in the matter,” the official added.
“All the 188 passengers - which included two infants - were accommodated on another aircraft and it took off at 4.52 p.m. It landed in Srinagar at 6 p.m.,” the official said.
