Speeding tanker crushes four to death
August 10th, 2011 - 5:21 pm ICT by IANSLucknow, Aug 10 (IANS) A speeding tanker hit some people waiting for a bus by the roadside, killing four and injuring five in Uttar Pradesh’s Sant Kabir Nagar district Wednesday, police said.
The accident took place in Khaleelabad area, when the tanker spun out of the driver’s control and ran over the people who were waiting for a bus to Ayodhya city.
“Those injured or killed had left their bus after it developed some problem and were standing by the roadside to board another bus to Ayodhya,” police inspector N.K. Singh told reporters in Sant Kabir Nagar, some 300 km from Lucknow.
“While four people died on the spot, among them two women. Five others received multiple injuries. They are being treated in a hospital where their condition is stated to be serious,” he added.
Police are yet to nab the driver of the tanker, who managed to escape soon after the accident.
The accident victims are residents of Gorakhpur and Sant Kabir Nagar districts.
