September 28th, 2011 - 11:55 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Sep 28 (IANS) Attempting to evade being booked for speeding, a call centre cab ran over two traffic policemen, killing one and injuring the other Wednesday, police said. The driver was later arrested.
Head Constable Nehander Singh, 46, and Constable Ankit Tomar, 23, were checking traffic near south Delhi’s Sunlight Colony area, near the toll road leading to Noida, when a speed interceptor vehicle found that an Uttar Pradesh registered vehicle, UP30A 8891, was travelling beyond the permissible limit of 70 km per hour, a police officer said.
They signalled the vehicle to stop but the driver, in a bid to escape, overtook a vehicle and ran over the policemen.
The two were taken to a nearby hospital where Singh’s condition started deteriorating. He was taken to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences trauma centre where he died while being operated upon.
Tomar suffered injuries in his leg and was discharged after treatment.
Police later arrested the driver, Yash Raj, 28, from Noida’s Sector 12. The vehicle was hired by Dish TV call centre, police said.
